This book is a collection of memories—fragments of a larger story—recording the tragedies bravely shared by survivors of genocide.
The design reflects the testimonies it contains.
Text blocks press against the spine and sink toward the bottom margins, as if weighted by the heaviness of memories.
The text is printed in red ochre pigment, intentionally avoiding black in response to the symbolism of the ISIS flag.
As part of concealing identities, chapters begin with glued photographs of narrators’ hands. Readers are invited to lift these images, revealing the names with care.
The stories are further accompanied by photographs and maps of the specific regions where the events took place.
The format size was chosen to reflect the year in which these events happened.
