My growing interest in a fleeting yet enduring material—paper—led me to Japan, where I had the opportunity to enroll in a papermaking class. This experience later became the starting point for a writing course taught by Phil Baber after my return to Amsterdam. It was within this context that the present set of publications was developed.
RAMPANT ERRAND OLD is a compilation of textual excerpts reflecting on paper—its qualities, possibilities, and significance across various fields. The texts were found and photographed in selected books from the Kyoto Seika University Library, specifically shelf NR.727. These fragments were subsequently silkscreened onto torn pages from discarded books as well as handmade stock, forming an educational yet poetic narrative about paper. The publications reflect on the material’s creators, history, and processes of recycling, while serving as a starting point for further engagement with paper as a medium. Ultimately, the project argues for the importance of institutional papermaking workshops as spaces that enable deeper exploration and understanding of this material.
