Letters (written mostly by men) arrived in Amsterdam from literally all around the world, requesting information sent to the editors of Suck or Joy Publications between the years 1969–1981.
When I discovered this correspondence archive—the Bill Levy Suck and Wet Dream Film Festivals Collection at the International Institute of Social History in Amsterdam—I fully immersed myself in browsing, reading, and nuzzling through the different papers, envelopes, and attachments, valuing their tangible and historical aspects.
Intrigued by both the content (new address reports, complaints, or direct hits on the recipient Purple Suzan) and the visuals, I imagined people writing those pages in their individual private environments.
An honest craving for new desires, while eagerly awaiting a response, made me compare this striving to digitized inboxes or to website “About” sections with frequently asked questions.
